Current Beauty + Hair Favorites

IMG_0952

Hey Everyone, welcome back to the blog. Today I am talking about my current beauty and hair favorites. I have recently been trying out new products and come across a few that I just love so of course I had to share them. So first up I’m going to be talking about my foundation.

IMG_0980

I have tried out a few different foundations and I was using the Benefit Hello Flawless foundation in Ivory Pure 4 Sure. I love this foundation, it applies really nicely and matches my skin tone well, but I wanted a little more coverage. I went to Sephora and the sales girl recommended the new Kat Von D Foundation and I love it. The color I wear is Light 42 Warm. It is very thick, has great coverage, and the color is perfect for my skin tone. I apply it with a beauty blender and it goes on flawless. I then set my foundation with a sheer powder and I have been loving the Translucent Powder from Laura Mercier. It is super light and perfect for setting my liquid foundation. For blush I recently tried the Nars Orgasm blush and fell in love. The color looks like a really natural flush and is the perfect pink. For concealer I use the Stroke of Light by Bare Minerals in Luminous 1. The color is really great for counteracting the dark circles under my eyes. To set my make up in place I use the Urban Decay All Night Makeup Setting Spray. I highly recommend this spray especially if you live in a humid climate like I do in Florida. Your makeup will stay through the heat and sweat which is amazing!

For eyes, I always start out with the Urban Decay Eyeshadow primer potion. This really helps the keep my eyeshadow in place and really emphasizes the pigment of the eyeshadow. Then for eyeshadow, I am still really loving the Naked 2 palette. I use this everyday because it has the best colors and is so easy to mix and match for the perfect look day or night. I usually wear “Foxy” all over my eye lid and under my brow then I apply “Tease” to the crease. If I am doing a night time or smoky eye look I will put “Chopper” or “Half Baked” all over my eyelid with one of the darker colors like “Rusted” in my crease. I then apply my favorite eyeliner the Stila waterproof liquid eyeliner in black. This is seriously the best eyeliner. The tip is very fine and makes application very easy and the formula really does stay all day. To finish off my eyes I use the Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara which is my ultimate favorite of all time mascara. For my brows, I recently got this travel sized sampler of the Benefit Ka-Brow Brow gel in color 1 and I am loving it. The gel is really easy to apply, fills in my brows very nicely, and even comes with its own little brush.

Ok so for lips I am going to start off with a new purchase the Bite lip scrub in Whipped Cherry. I always have chap lips and this stuff scrubs really well, smells amazing, and leaves my lips feeling really smooth. I also have the Lalicious sugar kiss lip butter which I put on before I go to bed so I wake up with soft lips in the morning. For daytime, if you are looking for a chapstick with just a hint of color I suggest the Fresh Sugar Lip balm in Rose. It goes on very smoothly and makes your lips feel so soft. It also has a very subtle light pink color which is gorgeous. For lipstick, my favorite at the moment is the Mac Viva Glam II lipstick. The color is a light mauve pink/almost nude and I am obsessed. I pair it with my Nars lipgloss in Turkish delight which lightens it up just a little bit.

Ok on to hair, my all time favorite shampoo is still the Carol’s Daughter in Monoi. It has a great smell is very gentle on my hair and leaves it feeling super soft. After washing and conditioning my hair I then brush it out with the Wet Brush. this brush is specifically made for people who have a very sensitive scalp and hate brushing your hair. It gets out tangles super fast without pulling out your hair. If it’s one of those days where I don’t feel like washing my hair I will usually go for some dry shampoo. This gives my hair a little refresh and makes it much easier to style. I have tried a few dry shampoos and consistently go back to the Tresemme  volume in dry shampoo. It is inexpensive and works very well and doesn’t leave a white residue. If I am styling my hair I usually put in a soft curl with my 1″ barrel con air curling iron. To finish I spray a little Pureology Levitation mist on my scalp to get a little more volume, set with hairspray then spray the Living Proof  Humidity shield.

Hope you enjoyed my beauty reviews and recommendations. If you have any recommendations of products I should try, let me know in the comments below. I love trying new things.

March Favorites

Hi Everyone! I know we are already half way through April, but I have been so busy that I haven’t had any time to sit down and talk about my March Favorites. So here we go.

First up is this new body wash from Bath and Body Works. I love anything with the smell of coconut in it, and usually when I’m shopping at Bath and Body Works my go to is Coconut Lime Verbena. I couldn’t find that flavor on this trip so I opted for the Honolulu Sun body wash and I am so happy I did. This body wash smells amazing! It smells fresh with a hint of coconut and truly takes me to a tropical island paradise as I’m lathering in the shower.

My next favorite from March is this Lalicious Sugar Kiss Lip Butter. I suffer from very dry lips and skin and this lip butter makes my lip feel so hydrated and soft. I have been applying it every morning and really do feel a difference in the way my lips feel. Highly recommend!

So the other day my husband and I found ourselves wandering the isles of Costco and happened upon this box of Protein Pancake Mix by Kodiak Cakes. I usually make protein pancakes from scratch but we decided to give this a try. These pancakes are delicious! Sometime protein pancakes can taste gross because they don’t have carbs in them or they have a weird consistency. These protein pancakes taste like real pancakes and they have 14g protein per serving! My husband has been eating them every single day for breakfast for the past 2 weeks…they are that good!

My last favorite for March is the website ShopStyle. If you don’t know about it already, this website will become your new shopping best friend. I do a majority of my shopping online so when I am looking for something specific or I am looking to compare prices on the same item I use ShopStyle.com. This website is basically like google for shopping. You can search anything and it will pop up with a ton of options for a specific style. What is really great about this is it not only pulls style from hundreds of online stores, but you can modify your search terms specifying price, color, and even brand. I am currently loving the off-the-shoulder trend, so I used ShopStyle to look for some cute off-the-shoulder tops. This is seriously the best kept online shopping secret.

February Favorites

Hi All, sorry for the extended absence. I was having technical difficulties – my computer crashed and I didn’t get it back for a few days! Anyways, today I’m starting a new series where I talk about my new favorite things or most used things from the previous month. As I sometimes do, I got sucked into the internet last weekend while my husband was away and started watching video after video of makeup tutorials and favorite videos so I thought I would put together a little favorites capsule of my own every month. I LOVE sharing newly discovered products with my friends –  from makeup to hair products, to new restaurants or new home products – and I love learning about new products in return. So without further ado, here is my February Favorites list.
Acrylic File Holder – I made it a point last month to get a little more organized. Life can get busy and things can get crazy and then all of a sudden the house is a complete mess. In addition to this, one of our inexpensive ikea bookshelves broke, so I took this as an opportunity to get a bigger, prettier bookshelf and have it serve a functional purpose as well as adding prettiness to the room. I came across this file holder from Mackenzie Horan’s blog and loved it. At first I thought the price was a little high, but after looking at other acrylic file holder options, this was the largest and best quality acrylic file holder out there. I love that it is not only functional but that I can display it and it looks nice on the bookshelf.

Ulta Morning Whisper Silky Smooth Body Lotion – I received this lotion as a free gift with purchase when I ordered a bunch of stuff from Ulta last month. It came in a trial size package and I love it so much that when I used it all I went back to Ulta to buy more. I love the smell (smells like citrus and florals) and it makes my skin feel so soft. I have been very bad about using moisturizer in the past, but with this lotion I can’t wait to put it on! This lotion has things like aloe, shea butter, and a mix of vitamins that leave your skin feeling silky smooth.

Chloe perfume – I wanted a new perfume and I tried a lot before settling on this one. I love the smell. It is fresh and floraly – a great combination of my two favorite scents. I received a whole set for Christmas with  a full sized bottle, a mini bottle, and the lotion from my sister. Good thing I love this smell. LOL The set is not offered anymore, but you can find the individual products below.

Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repairing Shampoo, Conditioner, and Hair Mask – Let me start out by saying that I have tried A LOT of shampoos and conditioners. After I moved to Florida 3 years ago, I noticed my hair get very dry and I had an odd increase of fly-aways (I believe this is due to the hard water here). It is for these reasons that I find it very hard to find shampoos and conditioners that will leave my hair feeling nourished and silky soft but not weighed down. Just for contexts sake, my hair is medium thickness and naturally straight.

I usually buy trial sized sets of shampoos and conditioners to see if I like them before buying a 3 month supply of something that I don’t love. Initially, I bought this set because the package boasted that it “prevents breakage by 96% and let’s hair live 13x longer!* After just 1 use, you’ll have stronger, longer invincible hair”. I said OK sign me up! I tried it and after just a few uses I did notice a difference in my air. It looked shinier than normal and felt very soft. Not only that but they all smell amazing. After using up most of the trial size bottles (I kept them for traveling), I went back and purchased the full sized and have been very happy with how my hair looks and feels. I was my hair about 2-3 times a week and use the shampoo and conditioner every time, but I only use the hair mask (in between shampooing and conditioning ) about once a week because it does such a good job of moisturizing that I don’t want to over use it and have greasy looking locks. I would highly recommend these product to anyone looking to improve the look and feel of your hair.

Simple Cleansing Micellar Water – I was recently introduced to this by a friend. I had previously using the neutrogena wipes; and while there is nothing wrong this these wipes (they are great for travelling) I like this makeup remover because it is extremely gentle and doesn’t dry out your skin. It is made with no harsh chemicals and even has vitamins in it to boost the look and feel of your skin.

Gap Tee / Black Denim (similar here, also love these) / Rain Boots, similar here, love these and they come in a ton of colors / Sunglasses  / Necklace (similar here)

The end of summer means rainy season in Florida. These are my favorite rain boots. I bought them a few years ago from Target, but I just can’t seem to get rid of them. I just LOVE the polka dots and I find every excuse to wear them.

Rainy days are the perfect excuse to get errands done and maybe fit a little shopping time in too. I had to stop by Sephora to stock up on my favorite Benefit Foundation (for more makeup must-haves see post here), and discovered this gorgeous burgundy Nars lip color in Damned! I instantly fell in love. If you are looking for the perfect Fall lip color this is it!

Another great thing about rainy days is doing nothing but wasting time on the internet. While doing said activity, I came across this awesome blog by a girl name Missy who does amazing hair tutorials. For the hair style in the above pictures, find tutorial here. (Don’t hold it against me that it doesn’t look as good as hers).

Hope everyone is enjoying their week. Thanks for reading.

Current Beauty Faves

Topshop Romper / Earrings / Necklace

Hey Y’all. Today I’m talking about my current beauty faves. I love all things makeup and hair products and I am always looking for new things. But there are some products that I just love so much and keep buying over and over again. These are some of the product that I love the most and would recommend to any of my friends.

Urban Decay Naked Palette 2: I started using this palette about a year ago and it is the only eyeshadow I now use to get ready in the morning. I usually start with Verve all over my lid, Tease in the crease, and a mixture of Foxy and Bootycall for right under my eyebrow. This is a great eyeshadow palette for traveling too because you can do easy everyday looks but also a smokey eye for a night out, and I am all about versatility and getting the most out of your products.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner: I used to use a kohl eye pencil (and still do on my lower lashes, love this one from MAC) and I loved the control it gave me. I was nervous to use a liquid liner because I felt like it would be messier. This is more of a gel eyeliner and I have great control and the “Intense Black” color is perfectly dark.

Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow SPF 25 Liquid Foundation: I have been using this product for over a year now and I love it. I initially bought it when I ran out of Mac Liquid Foundation and I was looking for something lighter feeling on my skin. This gives me great coverage while not feeling cakey, and the SPF 25 is a bonus! I use shade “I am pure 4 sure” Ivory and it matches my skin tone perfectly.

Bare Minerals Stroke Of Light Eye Brightener: This is a new favorite. I started seeing more noticeable dark circles under my eyes (a cause of getting older), so I picked this up after I saw great reviews from a few other bloggers. Now I couldn’t imagine my makeup routine with out it. It instantly brightens my eyes and gives me more of an “awake” look. Definitely a must have! I use shade Luminous 1.

Blending Sponge: This is a really handy tool for blending in if you use concealer, highlighter, and foundation. I use this after applying my liquid foundation and my Bare Minerals eye brightener so I don’t get noticeable creases around my eyes.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara: This is seriously the BEST mascara I’ve ever owned! I love it so much. It makes my lashes look SO long! I honestly can’t say enough good things about it.

NYX Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray: I started using setting spray after my Bridal Makeup Artist used it on my for my wedding day look. Ever since, I’ve been hooked, especially living in a humid climate where you face melts off once you step outside. This spray is so great I have walked around all day outside with out have any face melt issues. Also, it is a matte spray so I doesn’t add any shininess to your face.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Rose: This is a new one for me and I am already in love. I usually don’t wear lipstick everyday, so this is almost like a tinted chapstick that gives your lips a subtle pink.

Covergirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm: This is another great non-lipstick balm that I picked up and love. I am always on the hunt for a non-lipstick balm because I feel like they can be so sticky and you are always having to reapply. I love something that gives a subtle color. This is in color “Blush Twist” and it is a very pretty pink and applies very smoothly. Again it feels more like a chapstick than a lipstick.

Nars Lip Gloss in Turkish Delight: This is definitely a new favorite that I will be repurchasing for a long time.  I am really picky about lip gloss because they are always so sticky, but this is the perfect shade of light pink and not sticky at all. Definitely a must have in every make up bag.

Thanks for reading. Do you have any make up products that you love? I always love trying new things. Leave a comment and let me know!
