One of the things that I look forward to at this time of year is baking Christmas cookies. I have been doing this every Christmas with my grandma, mom, and sister for as long as I can remember. As it gets closer and closer to December I get so excited thinking about the time I will be spending in the kitchen mixing, baking, and decorating all of the delicious treats.
This year I am not able to partake in the baking with my mom and grandma, however I did not want to miss out on making some Holiday treats.
This year I wanted to try some new recipes so I searched Pinterest to find some delicious sounding goodies.
The first recipe I made came from Cupcakes and Cashmere and it was her Peppermint Oreo Truffles. They were delicious! I adapted the recipe because I didn’t need as many and only used 2/3 of a package of Oreos and a half of a small container of cream cheese. This actually made about 18 – 20 Truffles which was the perfect amount.
The second one I made was Christmas Bark. I have never made Chocolate Bark before but it looked really easy so I thought I would give it a shot. I grabbed some super cute decorations from Michaels Craft Store to put in my Bark and they turned out so good!
Christmas Bark Ingredients:
1 1/2 Bags of Chocolate Chips
Decorations: including but not limited to sprinkles in all shapes and sizes, Christmas shaped candies, crushed candy canes. You could even do red and green M&Ms if you wanted.
All you do is melt the Chocolate chips, spread it on a baking sheet, decorate, and chill. I used milk chocolate chips as my base and white chocolate to swirl on top. I then took my decorations and just went to town. After you are happy with your chocolate masterpiece you put in the fridge for about 20-30 mins. To serve just break into big chunks. See that easy!!
The final candy I made is not really a candy but more of a treat, Christmas Tree Brownies. I saw these on Pinterest and thought they looked really easy to make so I gave it a shot. And yes they are super easy and don’t take a lot of artistic skills!
Christmas Tree Brownie Ingredients:
Ghirardelli Brownie mix
Small Candy Canes
The first step is to make the brownies. I suggest baking in an 8×8 pan if you can. The bigger the pan the harder it is to make consistent triangle shapes. Before you put the batter in the pan be sure to lay down some parchment paper in the pan with enough hanging over the sides that way you can grab the baked brownies out of the pan easily. Bake according to package. After your brownies are baked and properly cooled pull out of the pan using the parchment paper and lay on the cutting board. Cut diagonally to make small triangle shapes. Once they are cut insert the candy cane trunks (you will need to break the hook off of your small candy canes to get just a small stick). Then it is time to decorate. Use your green frosting and draw a zig zag shape starting from the bottom and working your way up to the top. After you have applied your frosting but before it is hardened place your sprinkles on to look like little ornaments. And that’s it you have Christmas tree brownies!
